Pip and the Beautiful Dark

Pip is a small round hedgehog who is afraid of the dark. Every night when the lamp goes out, the shadows in his burrow look like giants. One evening Pip decides to find out where the dark comes from, so he tiptoes out of his cozy burrow into the moonlit forest with only a tiny acorn lantern. Along the way he meets a sleepy owl who shows him how the stars keep watch, a family of fireflies who lend him their gentle glow, and an old badger who tells him the dark is just the world tucking everyone in. Pip realizes the dark is not full of giants — it's full of friends who are resting too. He walks home under a blanket of stars, curls up in his burrow, and for the first time falls asleep with a smile, no longer afraid.
